Christmas Essential Oils to the Rescue

With Christmas looming why not try one or all of our Top Essential Oils for a 'Scentsational' Christmas. We have put together our favourite therapeutic festive oils to help ensure you truly have a very Merry and 'relaxed' Christmas this year!

Bergamot:

'Natures prozac/mothers modern helper' - an on trend scent (Bergamot is in all of the latest fragrances). Men like the rich fruity smell as much as women and best of all it keeps you calm and unfrazzled throughout Christmas.

For the bath – 2 drops of Bergamot, 1 of Cedarwood and 1 drop of Green Mandarin.

For the lounge - 4 drops of Bergamot, 2 drops of Orange and 1 drop of Frankincense in an oil burner or diffuser or on a hanky behind a warm radiator.

For massage – 1 tablespoonful of Sweet Almond Oil mixed with 2 drops of Bergamot, 1 drop of Lime and 1 drop of Cedarwood.

Clary Sage: To really get you in the party mood. It has a similar effect to alcohol, relaxes the mind but lifts the energy levels, slightly euphoric (think red bull and vodka but without the bad stuff).

For the lounge - 2 drops Clary Sage, 2 drops Geranium and 1 drop Cedarwood.

Pre-party shower - 1 drop of Clary Sage in a tablespoonful of shower gel.

Grapefruit: For the morning after! Add to your shower gel and your shampoo (2 drops per dessertspoonful of gel). Have on a hanky in the office or make your own restorative perfume. Mix 1 tablespoonful of vodka with 4 drops of Grapefruit, 2 of Geranium, 2 of Palmarosa and 2 of Neroli (Green Mandarin can be used as a cheaper alternative to Neroli).

Geranium: Are you at that certain age where the thought of Christmas get you all hot and bothered. If you suffer from hormone related hot flushes try 6 drops of Geranium in the bath or use in a diffuser or oil burner with 3 drops of Frankincense and 3 drops of Lavender. Alternatively to make your own cooling shower gel add 2 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Spearmint to a dessertspoonful of shower gel or add the same quantities to a neutral body lotion (try baby aisle at supermarket) for a soft, cool skin.

Rosemary and Chamomile: If Christmas brings sad memories why not try this gently soothing blend. Use in the bath or in a burner – 3 drops of Rosemary for remembrance and protection and 3 drops of Chamomile which in the language of flowers means 'patience in adversity'. Ideal for gentle chill out and a nurturing comforting bath.

Cinnamon and Orange: – smells delicious and lifts the mood. Mix 4 drops of Orange(golden apple) – the cheer you up , pick you up, make you smile oil with 4 drops of Cinnamon and enjoy in an oil burner, or in a diffuser. This natural fragrance is literally 100 times more pungent than candles (which are usually no more than 2% scent) and great value too!

Peppermint and Tea Tree: To keep your loo smelling fresh during the Christmas celebrations use a few drops of these oils inside the loo roll or place on a tissue on top of the bathroom cabinet or in the waste bin – your loo will then smell like a smart spa!!!

Thanks for all the great ideas on including essential oils in our lives during the holiday season!

Don't forget about frankincense, which is a very appropo oil this time of year.

Frankincense can increase spiritual awareness, promote meditation and ease anxiety and depression!

Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and peaceful holiday season!
